Adobe just released a new update to Premiere Pro, Audition, After Effects, and some other apps (feel free to read the entire changelog as well as check out some videos on the new features from each here). Checking out some of the enhancements for myself, it’s is a neat, albeit small, update. Adobe seems to be on a roll lately with trying to improve their Creative Cloud suite for the tons of professionals that use it for work. I am definitely into features that make my workflow faster, easier, etc. as I’m sure anyone else who’s job relies quite a bit on Adobe’s software would be.

But you know what I¬ really want more than new features? FOR PREMIERE TO BE MORE STABLE AND STOP CRASHING WHEN I’M IN THE MIDDLE OF A VIDEO I NEED TO GET OUT ASAP AND HAVE TO RELOAD THE FILES, RECREATE PROXY MEDIA, SWITCH COMPUTERS SOMETIMES, JUST TO ADD A FREAKIN’ TITLE CARD.

Ahem, sorry. Like I was saying, stability is my more significant concern right now.

Now, in fairness, Adobe does mention that this update adds some performance improvements so¬ maybe¬ it is completely stable now and I’m going to use it tonight and not have any issues ever again, but I’m going to assume that isn’t quite the case. Regardless, I’m happy to see that Adobe is creating new features and at least starting to focus on their well-known issues.

I’m digressing a bit though as there is another company that I am just as disappointed with in terms of helping the programs I depend on for my livelihood not crash constantly: NVIDIA.

NVIDIA, the most popular manufacturer of GPU’s that power the creative world releases drivers¬ all the time. New Adobe update, new NVIDIA driver (and new issues generally), new video game, new NVIDIA driver, new GPU announced, new NVIDIA driver for my older one for some reason, etc.

Have a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K? Want Blackmagic RAW? Here’s how to update.

Well, thankfully, NVIDIA just released a new feature regarding those aforementioned drivers late last month that I’m told will help those of us that use said Adobe products (and other creative tools for that matter). There is now two different paths for driver updates: one for Game Ready Drivers and the new one for Creator Ready Drivers.

The idea behind these new creator drivers is that they are going to be much less frequent than the game ones, and optimized for Adobe products, AutoDesk, Unreal Engine, and RED CINEPRO-X.

According to NVIDIA’s site, they “…conduct exhaustive multi-app testing for each type of creative workflow, evaluating driver quality in the same manner that creators work day-to-day. Cutting 4K video in Adobe Premiere Pro CC then moving it to After Effects CC for post-production then back to Premiere to render    an example of a video editor's everyday workflow    is rigorously tested to ensure the best experience possible.”

Holy crap, they’re finally listening.

How to Get the Creator Drivers Instead of the Game Drivers

To get these new Creator Drivers, you need using one of the following NVIDIA GPU’s:

  • Turing-based GeForce RTX, GTX and TITAN GPUs

  • Volta-based TITAN V

  • Pascal-based GeForce GTX and TITAN GPUs, and all modern Quadro GPUs

Once you confirm you have one of those:

  1. Open NVIDIA GeForce Experience on your computer (download here if you don’t have it).Open NVIDIA Geforce Experience

  2. Click on Drivers at the top once logged in.Click on Drivers

  3. At the top right under Check For Updates, click the three dots and select Creator Ready Driver.Select Creator Ready Drivers

  4. Click Check for Updates and see if there’s a new update for you.Click Check for Updates

And there you go, from now on, you’ll only receive the creator-optimized drivers.

Hopefully, both of these updates and both companies’ new focus on making life easier for creators is a sign of what’s to come. And hopefully, what’s to come is me being able to do my job without cursing at my computer.

What do you guys think of all this? I’ve updated to the latest for both and will let you know how it goes, but has anyone already updated and noticed any better performance?
